Pullman’s First Major Comic Convention to take place Feb. 1st
Pullman—The Palouse’s first major comic convention will take place on Saturday, February 1st at the SEL Event Center in Pullman. The ‘Pac Con Palouse’ is slated to host comic book artists from all around the world and vendors from across the region.
Special guests of the event include legendary comic artist, Stephen Platt, whose published works include: ‘Wolverine’ and ‘Moon Knight’ and who’s recent Hollywood work includes blockbuster titles such as ‘Ironman’, ‘Oblivion’, ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ among others.
Legendary comic artist, Val Mayerik, co-creator of ‘Howard the Duck’ and ‘Marvel Indigo’ who’s other published work list includes ‘Man-Thing’ and ‘Conan the Barbarian’ will also be featured at the convention. Mayerik’s current clients range from Coca-Cola to Microsoft and the Oregon Historical Society.
The convention is also hosting a costume contest hosted by Moscow retailer, Safari Pearl. The ‘Cosplay’ contest is offering a $250 cash prize and $250 in gift-certificates to winners at the event.
Jake Mackessy, host and creator of Pac-Con Palouse plans to feature tables with vendors, displays, artists, comic book retailers and more in the main event space at the SEL Event Center. Other rooms in the venue will host card games such as ‘Magic the Gathering’ while others will be filled with dozens of classic and modern arcade games.
‘Our vision of the event is to entertain and bring unique art and artists face-to-face with people on the Palouse and from all around the region’. Because Pac-Con Palouse is a first time event, Makcessy says a lot has been invested in advertising the event with local radio and digital advertising, mostly Facebook. The convention will also host a ticket giveaway and limousine ride for 8 people on local radio station, ZFun 106 this month sponsored by College Cabs.
‘We have more than 1,000 ‘Likes’ which is re-assuring as a first-time event because we know most of those are local and regional fans that will most likely come out for the show’, Makcessy said.
Local sponsors of the event include: Zeppoz and Mr. Z’s Casino in Pullman, Safari Pearl in Moscow, College Cabs Inc. of Pullman and Mercenary Art Studio in Moscow. Regional and national sponsors of the event include: The Middle East Film and Comic Con, Jet City Comic Show, Sci-Fi Cards, The D20 Girls Project and the Northwest Boxer Rescue.
The event is open to the public and tickets, while limited, are available online at Pacific-Conventions.com. Tickets are also available at Safari Pearl in Moscow. Standard pricing is $20 and $15 for students and members of the military.
